On June 6th, hundreds of pickleball leaders from around the world attended the first ever "World Pickleball Convention" in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Among those in attendance were members of the Global Pickleball Federation (GPF), including (above from L to R) Ngoc Nguyen, Justin Maloof, Ruth Rosenquist, Ron Ponder, Chandler Carney, Steve Sidwell, Cynthia Clark and PPF chairman Mike Johnson.
Two days of talks, presentations and meetings followed as some of the most influential pickleball business leaders met to discuss the state of the sport and plans for the future. Robert Quicksilver, Chairman of USA Pickleball (USAP) kicked things off with his State of the Union address, followed by the History of Pickleball presented by Stu Upson, former CEO of USAP.
Later Ruth Rosenquist moderated a panel discussion of GPF members including Chandler Carney (Legal, Peru), Justin Maloof (USAP COO, USA), Cynthia Clark (Membership, Canada) and Mike Johnson (Treasurer, Philippines) discussing a wide range of topics including global governance, the Olympics, membership and growth, and grass roots development among others.
Over one hundred vendors, suppliers and equipment manufacturers manned booths showcasing their products, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to try new court surfaces, paddles, and other pickleball paraphernalia. Both USA Pickleball and the Global Pickleball Federation graced the entrance with team members welcoming visitors, answering questions and sharing their vision for the future.

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) formally welcomed the Philippine Pickleball Federation (PPF) as the country’s National Sports Association (NSA) for pickleball last April 14, 2024 during its second General Assembly, which was held at the East Ocean Seafood Palace, Aseana City in Paranaque.
President Arman Tantoco, Chairman Mike Johnson and Sec Gen Red Dumuk represented the PPF, which has 89 member clubs and over 4,300 players. PPF is now the 78th member of the POC. The POC is headed by Tagaytay City Mayor, Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee.
As a matter of course, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will also accredit and recognize the PPF as the official NSA for pickleball. Tantoco, a licensed architect, made a presentation highlighting the rapid growth and allure of pickleball, and the unique way it creates passion and appeals to a very broad community.
Johnson, former co-chair of the international pickleball rules committee, also served as a founding member and Secretary General of the Asia Federation of Pickleball (AFP) and Secretary of the International Federation of Pickleball (IFP), and currently serves as Treasurer of the Global Pickleball Federation (GPF).
PPF was featured in the April issue of Pickleball Magazine, which states in part: “The PPF has nurtured the growth of pickleball, from temporary courts on the street to 80 clubs and more than 4,100 players today. Now in its fifth year, Street Pickleball has endured as a popular place to learn the sport.”
The PPF board of trustees include: Giselle Cabrera, Federico Costales, Jonathan Jover, Jeffrey Kho, Gigi Maceda, Raffy Malanyaon, and Edgardo Mendoza. The president of Streetball Pickleball and newest PPF ambassador, Coni Ibañez, also serves as PPF Treasurer.
Cabrera, Costales, Johnson, Kho, Mendoza and Tantoco are all Certified Instructors while Maceda is a level 2, USA Pickleball certified referee and referee trainer.
